Why should I visit HelpHandicap Foundation’s website?
Besides offering information on our programs and up coming events and activities, the website has been designed to offer a wealth information pertaining to people with disabilities. Through our “Success Stories” forum, we will bring stories of people with disabilities who accomplished something significant, so that other people can learn from their experiences and seek inspiration. Each story when published in our column will stay for a month or two, then the story will be put back in “Archives”. The “Resources” corner will provide links to various websites, educational institutions and equipment providers etc.
Who are the people behind HelpHandicap Foundation?
HelpHandicap Foundation was founded in May 2001 by a few professionals committed to using their experience and knowledge of dealing with people with disabilities in India. Our executive committee and board of directors are comprised of various professional individuals, representing such areas as engineering, physical therapy and businessmen.

How can I be assured that my donations are reaching people with disabilities in India?
HelpHandicap Foundation works closely with its alliance partners, the assistance granted is offered in kind only to the school, hospital, orthotics and prosthetics centers, equipment maker and livestock provider etc. A thorough evaluation is done to determine the eligibility of the candidates for our various programs.
Will my donations be tax deductible?
HelpHandicap Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. Donations to HelpHandicap Foundation are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.
What is your operating cost?
Printing, postal charges, domain name/corporation fee are our only operating costs. Services offered by our executive committee and board of directors are purely voluntary.
How long does it take to process an application for assistance?
Usually, between one to three months.
How many people with disabilities are there in India?
There are conflicting numbers, one estimates puts the number at 60 million, and according to another estimate, the population of people with disabilities is approximately 90 million. Of these 12 million are blind, 28.5 million are with low vision, 12 million are with speech and hearing defects, 6 million mobility disabled, 24 million mentally retarded, 7.5 mentally ill and 1.1 million leprosy cured.
Why is it important to assist people with disabilities in India?
If we consider the staggering number of disabled folks in India and the limited resources available to them, it becomes fairly obvious that a lot needs to be done to help this community. Estimates show that only 5% of people with mobility impairments receive any kind of orthotics and prosthetics aides such as artificial limbs and calipers; only .1percent of people with disabilities have jobs in government agencies; less than 1% of children with disabilities go to school.
